These are the first words I’ve written on this site in some time but I couldn’t let the events of this day go by without sharing my thoughts.
After a years-long battle with cancer, Steve Jobs died today at the age of 56. It’s a day that we knew was coming but in spite of all of that, we wanted to believe he’d always be around.
It’s not hyperbole to say that I wouldn’t be where I am today without his work and that of the people of Apple. Because of Steve, I and others like me have been inspired to pursue our passions and to attempt to create our own bit of magic.
There are so many things going through my head right now, I can scarcely put together a cohesive thought. I think my wife said it best on her Facebook page:
My husband lost the best friend he never knew today. RIP Steve Jobs
I think there are many that feel that way and all that’s left to say is; thanks, Steve. We’ll miss you.
This video has been making the rounds and rightly so. It’s the comedian Louis CK on Late Night with Conan O’Brien discussing how spoiled we are as a society. Even though the lack of wonder we have with all our technological advancement will likely only get worse, it’s nice to see someone point out how everything IS amazing.
I have eaten my words and joined Facebook. There. You happy?
I suppose it was only a matter of time. You see, even woefully uncool people like this and this in my life have been on for a while and give me a hard time about it. I maintain though that I am right in that I could totally waste a lot of time on Facebook or whatever. The value however becomes more and more evident when you see it become part of how some of us do business and gather information.
So there you are. Have a good laugh. But if I sit here for hours on end and don’t eat or shower…let it be on your heads!
Thanks, Steve "
